The unusual style of SBTRKT is one to marvel and question. His music spurs from an eclectic mix of two-step, UK funky, dubstep, R&B and Chicago House music. A curious blend indeed, the UK producer has worked with artists such as MIA, Radiohead, Basement Jaxx, Mark Ronson, Underworld, while also releasing his own productions of self-titled albums, singles and EPs. His variation of genres from most musical art forms is the key to his success as his music runs frequently in British Radio stations like BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 6.
Going beyond the depths of SBTRKT is quite the challenge as he’d rather keep a private image thus subtracting himself allowing his music to shine through:”The name SBTRKT is me taking myself away from that whole process. I’m not a social person, so having to talk to DJs to make them play a record is not something I want to do. It’s more about giving them a record as an anonymous person and seeing whether they like it or not. If they play it, they play it.” His tribal head mask further hides his identity as he wears the native society ceremonial masks designed by Hidden Place.
